The YubiKey by Yubico (Affiliate Link) is a great little thumb drive like device that allows you to have 2-factor authentication across a variety of systems and online areas.
What it does is generate with the touch of a finger a one time password to login to your account. You still need your regular credentials but this adds another physical barrier to data breaches and what not.
They are very affordable at $25 for a basic model and $35 for the RFID model. The Yubikey works with the popular password vault Lastpass as well as with WordPress.
In addition, Yubico has created an API to allow developers to integrate the Yubikey functionality into their Web-Applications and sites.
It’s a very handy device and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be even more secure online.
Do you have a Yubikey? What are your thoughts on it? Post your thoughts in the comments.
Most of us remember the days of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 5 and IE 6. To many those were simpler times. Most people were using the Seattle software giant’s browser exclusively and because of that most people knew nothing else.
